SUMMARY:Mindful Making: Inner and Outer Selves
DESCRIPTION:Art provides an accessible way for participants to express thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to communicate through words. Mindful Making is designed to support both mental well-being and community building by creating a welcoming\, low-pressure space where participants can step away from the stress of their daily responsibilities and focus on being present through creativity. By combining individual creative time with group reflection\, Mindful Making helps participants feel more comfortable expressing themselves\, connecting with others\, and building a sense of belonging within their community. \nThe Inner and Outer Self activity invites participants to explore the difference between how they present themselves to others and how they experience themselves internally. Using art\, participants create an image that represents their outer self alongside symbols\, colors\, or imagery that reflect their inner thoughts\, feelings\, values\, and experiences. The activity encourages self-expression\, self-awareness\, and reflection in a safe and creative way.  \nChildcare is available for this event. \nSydney Wiggins is a full-time college student with experience in art education. She is passionate about art as a tool for self-expression and reflection; thereby creating spaces that support mental well-being and meaningful community connections. In addition to teaching art and theater to young children\, she leads Mindful Making\, a college art group that incorporates creative prompts to guide participants through open-ended art making and reflection.  \nFor Her Code of Conduct
