SUMMARY:Pottery Workshop with SAMA: Celebrating Women's History Month
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second part of our art making workshop series in partnership with the San Antonio Museum of Art\, celebrating Women’s History Month through the work of renowned potter Maria Martinez. \nInspired by SAMA’s current exhibition Canvas to Clay: Georgia O’Keeffe & Maria Martinez to Mata Ortiz & Tonalá\, this hands-on workshop invites you to explore Martinez’s masterful pottery and create your own ceramic vessel in her tradition. We’ll begin with an introduction to Martinez’s life and legacy\, discovering how she revived ancient Pueblo pottery techniques and became one of the most celebrated Native American artists of the 20th century.  \nThen it’s time to create! Using ceramic low-fire clay and a traditional hand coiling method\, you’ll build your own pot\, focusing on the form and shape of your vessel. No pottery experience necessary; this workshop is about connecting with an ancient art form and honoring the creative spirit within you. \nYour pottery will be left to dry and then fired in a kiln at Road Runner Ceramics (the museum will handle all firing and transportation). You can pick up your finished artwork at For Her 1-2 weeks after the class. \nAll materials provided. Childcare available. Light refreshments served.

SUMMARY:Her Circle: Queer Connections
DESCRIPTION:Her Circle: Queer Connections is for queer women and nonbinary folks to share a space in which they can build meaningful connections and community. Join us as we facilitate queer joy through celebrating\, supporting\, and uplifting each other. \nSessions will be held at the For Her community center every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. No worries if you can’t make it for every group! Friends are always welcome. Snacks and drinks are provided; feel free to bring your own dinner! Please note babysitting is not provided for this gathering. \nSave the date for future Her Circle: Queer Connections! \n\nApril 8\nApril 22\nMay 13\nMay 27\n\nFacilitated by Sarah Lopez & Hayley Russell \nSarah Lopez is a passionate advocate for queer women in San Antonio. After moving to the city a few years ago to embark on a career as a software engineer\, Sarah sought a strong sense of community and sisterhood. This journey led her to For Her\, a vibrant support group where connection thrives. Recognizing the need for solidarity among queer women\, Sarah took the initiative to spearhead the annual Pride events and the ongoing Queer Connections group at For Her. With a commitment to inclusivity\, Sarah aims to foster an environment where everyone feels uplifted\, seen\, and valued. Now\, as Sarah embarks on a new path by attending law school at St. Mary’s\, the goal remains the same: to empower and support the community.  \nAs a single parent for the past six years\, Hayley Russell has learned how to navigate life after leaving a decade-long abusive relationship and embracing her queer identity. During this pivotal chapter of her life\, For Her’s diverse groups gave her more than just support—they offered healing\, confidence\, and a sense of belonging she didn’t know she could find. Now\, Hayley is excited to give back by leading Queer Connections and helping others step into their own light. She is a fierce believer in the power of community\, shared stories\, and holding space for each other as we grow. Hayley’s hope is to offer the same care and connection that lifted her up when she needed it most. \nJoin Sarah and Hayley at Her Circle: Queer Connections in building a lasting sense of belonging! \nFor Her Code of Conduct

SUMMARY:Her Table: When Joy & Sorrow Dance with Gabrielle Leonard
DESCRIPTION:Her Table is a shared meal that provides an opportunity for women to connect over good food and meaningful conversation. Dinner\, babysitting\, and all materials will be provided. Friends are always welcome! \nWorkshop Topic: When Joy & Sorrow Dance \nRight now\, many of us are carrying both gratitude and grief. We’re facing financial strain\, social and political tensions\, wars across the globe\, and the weight of loneliness\, all while tending to the everyday responsibilities of work\, family\, and relationships. In seasons like this\, pausing to reflect on how these experiences are shaping our understanding of ourselves and of the world around us can feel like a luxury. \nThis workshop will create intentional space to slow down and reflect on the past year\, honoring both the beauty and the pain that shape our stories. We will explore how people throughout history have named their sorrow\, expressed their questions\, and still found language for hope and gratitude. \nThrough guided reflection\, journaling\, and conversation\, participants will have the opportunity to process their experiences with honesty and compassion. \nWe will practice naming what hurts\, noticing what is beautiful\, and being held as we hold both realities together. \nFacilitator: Gabrielle Leonard \nWe’re honored to partner with Gabrielle Leonard to bring this restorative workshop to the For Her community. Gabrielle is a dynamic speaker\, facilitator\, certified mental health coach\, and minister. She is known for being a captivating storyteller and teacher who imparts practical wisdom that heals. Gabrielle is the founder and visionary behind Returning to Joy\, a ministry that creates guided pathways to wholeness by providing resources and tools to help you connect with yourself and others. If you invite her to dinner\, she’s showing up! She grew up in New Orleans and has a strong appreciation for good food. She enjoys experimenting in the kitchen\, traveling to new places\, and sharing the joy of a good laugh. When she isn’t writing\, reflecting\, or studying\, she is stuffing her face with food that makes her heart sing.  \nDinner Provided \nVegetarian options will be available. \nSave the date for our next Her Table workshops! \n\nWednesday\, May 6th at 6:30 PM – Rest with Bria Woods\n\nFor Her Code of Conduct
