Friends are always welcome! \nWorkshop Topic: Building Resilience Through Community \nIn this interactive workshop\, we will learn how mental health impacts the LGBTQ+ population. We will learn about the intersectionality of other identities we hold and how this shows up in our lives. After understanding the impact identities hold when navigating mental health\, we will explore the idea of neuroplasticity and healing through building community. We will learn about the impact community has on mental health\, especially LGBTQ+ community.  \nEveryone will have a chance to engage in an art activity to close the presentation. Using collage materials\, there will be 15 minutes given to creating a collage about what community means to them. Then we will use about 10 minutes to share at our tables what we created. We will leave empowered to continue fostering meaningful connections with others to continue our healing. \nFacilitator: Aryn Thompson\, LCSW-S \nAryn Thompson is a psychotherapist and owner of Lavender Space\, an inclusive therapy practice. Her Master’s in Social Work has helped her to become an advocate and understand the importance of resource connection. With experience in almost every type of mental health setting\, she has spent the last seven years dedicated to addressing the mental health disparities in her community. She started a therapy practice that specializes in providing queer-informed care to LGBTQIA+ people looking to improve their mental health. DESCRIPTION:Join For Her for Self-Care Sunday to prioritize your mental and physical well-being and give yourself the care and attention you deserve. We’ll start our yoga class with some gentle grounding and building awareness in the body and mind. This will be a fun and dynamic asana flow inclusive to all bodies and levels of yoga. The practice will include elements of balance\, strength\, and mindfulness\, and end with an easeful transition into restoration. Following yoga\, we’ll have a light brunch (and mimosas!). DESCRIPTION:Her Table is a shared meal that provides an opportunity for women to connect over good food and meaningful conversation. Dinner\, babysitting\, and all materials will be provided. Friends are always welcome! \nWorkshop Topic: Talk Saves Lives \nOn May 15th\, For Her will host the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for their workshop\, Talk Saves Lives. We’ll talk about what we know about this leading cause of death\, the most up-to-date research on prevention\, and what we can all do to fight suicide. Community members will learn the common risk factors for suicide\, how to spot the warning signs in others\, and how to keep ourselves\, our loved ones\, and those in our community safe. \nFacilitator: Julia Hewitt\, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention \nFor Her is honored to welcome Julia Hewitt\, the Board Chair for the South Texas Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She has been a volunteer with AFSP since 2018\, and she’s also served as a crisis counselor. Julia is an Executive Director with Wells Fargo and an Adjunct Professor of psychology at two universities. Julia’s graduate work involves resilience and leadership.  \nJulia is a native of Russia and an immigrant\, building her life in San Antonio. She has two wonderful children\, three dogs\, and a cat. As a family they enjoy staying active\, traveling\, hiking\, live music\, and cooking.  \nDinner Provided \nDinner will be catered by Olive Garden\, and vegetarian options will be available.

SUMMARY:Self-Care Saturday: Art Therapy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join For Her for a special Self-Care Saturday in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. \nWorkshop Topic \nThis workshop will take participants through some of the art therapy processes that can help them understand how anger is an emotional ally in the mental health journey. Found object art assemblage and art journaling will be used. The workshop is for anyone wanting to look at their own anger\, as well as understand others’ anger. \nFacilitator: Kimberly Nguyen\, LPC \nKimberly Nguyen is an adult child of refugees\, an artist\, and an art therapist. Her journey with art therapy began when she used art to understand my experience of being raised by my parents who are survivors of the Vietnam War. She licensed professional counselor in Texas (LPC) and maintains her art therapy board certification as conferred by the Art Therapy Credentials Board. Her focus as a therapist is on understanding the impact of historical and intergenerational trauma on people’s well-being. \nPlease note babysitting will not be provided at this event.

Su enfoque de asesoramiento es basado en un modelo de empoderamiento. Su meta principal es ayudar a las mujeres a sanar de sus heridas emocionales\, y a enseñarles diferentes maneras de percibir y resolver sus problemas\, actitudes sanas\, y habilidades de comunicación para relacionarse con sus familias\, parejas\, y compañero/as para que puedan tomar buenas decisiones en sus vidas. \nDurante su tiempo libre\, Maria Luisa disfruta de pasar tiempo con sus perritos\, leer\, ir a correr\, practicar yoga\, y viajar con su familia. This support group will explore topics related to self-awareness\, healthy relationships\, trauma and healing\, and emotional well-being. \nWe invite all women who are looking to continue evolving through learning how to love and value themselves more\, sharing experiences\, and building a network of support. \nAbout the Therapist: \nMaria Luisa Salinas is a bilingual and bicultural psychotherapist with 30 years of professional experience. Her work includes helping women\, survivors of childhood trauma\, family violence\, and domestic violence. Her counseling approach is based on an empowerment model. Her main goal is to assist women in healing from emotional wounds and to teach them different ways of understanding and resolving their problems. This includes fostering healthy attitudes and communication skills to better relate to their families\, partners\, and peers\, empowering them to make positive decisions in their lives. \nDuring her free time\, Maria Luisa enjoys spending time with her dogs\, reading\, running\, practicing yoga\, and traveling with her family. She also enjoys volunteering her time with various organizations to support her community.

By the end of class\, participants will be able to create a simple pivot table. \nFacilitator: Eliana Sanchez \nBorn in El Paso\, TX\, Eliana was raised on both sides of the border. She’s a first-generation Mexican American and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with an undergrad in Multidisciplinary Studies. Eliana has over a decade of professional experience in healthcare finance and medical billing. In 2020\, Eliana transitioned to San Antonio\, and she currently serves as a healthcare consultant working to advance wellness in the Medicare population and supporting primary care providers. In her spare time\, she enjoys hiking\, exercising\, and going to the movies with her 11-year-old son.
