Mindful Making: Heart Mapping
Art provides an accessible way for participants to express thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to communicate through words. Mindful Making is designed to support both mental well-being and community building by creating a welcoming, low-pressure space where participants can step away from the stress of their daily responsibilities and focus on being present through creativity. By combining individual creative time with group reflection, Mindful Making helps participants feel more comfortable expressing themselves, connecting with others, and building a sense of belonging within their community.
The Heart Mapping activity invites participants to visually explore the people, places, experiences, values, and memories that hold meaning in their lives. Participants create a personalized map within the shape of a heart, using colors, symbols, words, and images to represent what is important to them. This activity encourages self-reflection, emotional expression, and connection to the people and experiences that shape who they are.
Sydney Wiggins is a full-time college student with experience in art education. She is passionate about art as a tool for self-expression and reflection; thereby creating spaces that support mental well-being and meaningful community connections. In addition to teaching art and theater to young children, she leads Mindful Making, a college art group that incorporates creative prompts to guide participants through open-ended art making and reflection.

For Her provides free onsite babysitting, and our babysitter is background-checked and CPR, first-aid, and Montessori-certified! Babies can stay with their mothers, and older children are welcome to sit in our living room and read, play on their phone, or do homework, etc. Due to the sensitive nature of some content and to keep a safe and relaxing space for our community members, children aren’t allowed to sit in on workshops and support groups.
We kindly ask that you let us know as soon as possible if your plans change so we can release childcare spots to other moms.
